In stead of paying it forward as named at the title, we are somehow looking this project forward. This is because this project looks quite the same with one of our ARC 1116 projects, which we are required to build something BIG out by ourselves. However, this project emphasizes more on environment and community service. This is a group project and we are required to group ourselves in about 10, and from there, we have to choose one of the non-profit organizations that needs our help. As a result, we choose Agathians Shelter as our targeted organization.
The aim of this project is to encourage the students to explore and work with the community to create a better tomorrow, Besides, this project aims to increase awareness of current environmental issues as well as creating envionmentally sustainable product/services/design in order to minimize the problems.
When we first reached Agathians Shelter, we were welcomned by the kids and the guardians. They were very friendly, to say the least. We also take the opprtunity to have a conversation with the person in-charge, Mr Siva. Mr Siva identified us the problems they face, such as the rain water that fall from the rooftop, the dust from the highway nearby, the open playing area for the kids etc. After a short discussion with him, we decided to build a green canopy to shelter the kids.
PROJECT 2 - PAYING IT FORWARD
Together with this project, we have to also prepare a proposal about our project. On top of that, we are also need to prepare a video about our project, so as to summarize what we have done to the community. During the tutorial, we voiced out our problems to our tutor. Likewise, we are also required to pass up some drafts and video trailer so that we are always right on track.
In this project, I get to know the meaning of sustainability deeper in terms of environmental and ecological. Besides, i learnt how to solve some minor environmental issues and recognise my responsibility to the mother nature. Furthermore, I learnt how to produce a complete documentation, from idea to paper and from paper to proposal. Moreover, I also learnt how to produce a video using different software and it ease the work. All in all, I did benefit a lot from this project and I feel proud of myself after I finished this project as I have contributed myself to our environment. How about you?
After few days of hardwork, the installation part of the project is finally come to an end. Even though it's been a hard time for our group for standing and working under the hot sun, it is however worth for us the moment we see joy and excitement from the visitors, the guardians and also the kids, and not to forget, the wonder works that we have done for the community.
